Genesis of the Project
Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has been working for the development of tribal community in the peripheral villages. The peripheral development, as identified by RSP, included 132 villages (106 rural and 26 urban). RSP also suggested area for development within 8km and 16km radius from the town. This includes 197 villages. The area such identified is called “Periphery”.
However for Holistic planning purposes all 479 villages in 6 blocks namely Kuarmunda, Nuagaon, Rajgangpur, Bisra, Lathikatha and part of Kutra, and 3 urban areas besides Rourkela industrial town & Rourkela Municipality covering 1893 sq. km. have been considered to identify the impact of the surrounding on this periphery. This area is termed as “Influence Zone".

Project Objectives
- To enhance livelihood opportunities through up-gradation of natural resource and other means.
- To equip the community for managing and mobilising resources effectively.
- To make adequate motivational efforts in order to ensure that people are making use of opportunities created and capacity built.

BAIF-READ Partnership
BAIF has decided to work with Renewable Energy and Agricultural Development (READ) foundation, Bhubaneswar to implement the project on day to day basis. BAIF will ensure techno-management input support to READ in the project components and review progress of the project at periodic intervals.
The proposal includes major interventions focusing family and the community for livelihood support, mobilization and capacity buildings of the community.The project aims at providing livelihood support and develop community to manage resources on sustainable basis.
